DATES: JUNE 11 - 18, 2019

White washed towns and the blue Adriatic Sea become a landscape of sunny golden wheat fields, then change back again to the deep azure of the Mediterranean as we explore Southern Italy, from east to west. Perfectly balancing our organized and free time, we’ll enjoy a diverse and fertile land, the countryside, small seafront towns and each unique culture. Come to the “hard to reach” places, the less traveled, and meet people as warm as the afternoon sun. Taste the South’s distinct sweet-spicy seafood and savor a real pizza with a Falanghina wine and your new Italian friends. This is the best of Authentic Southern Italy.

  • Start your adventure exploring charming MONOPOLI, the fortified seafront walls, castle and cathedral. Pass the fishing boats and board your caicco to sail along the clear blue Adriatic coast. Enjoy a swim in front of Polignano al Mare from your privately chartered 2-masted wooden gullet. Toast your first Italian sunset with a Prosecco and the sea breeze - benvenuti!

  • Venture south for your gelato in white washed OSTUNI. La Citta Bianca appears before you as a maze of stacked white houses and cobblestone alleys, crowned by a 15-century gothic cathedral overlooking the sea. This town can make a photographer of you.

  • Walk around lovely, baroque LECCE, nicknamed Florence of the South with our professional guide. Explore the 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheater and the town’s soft, cream-colored limestone architecture; each ornate building’s façade worked like lace.

  • This sunny area’s climate nurtures native grapes such as deep red Negroamaro and lighter Primitivo. As a result, a visit to a local masseria (old fortified country estate) and winery, a walk through the vineyards and a delicious tasting of Puglia wines is a must.

  • Continue to a very unique village, ALBEROBELLO. Our guide will explain the mysterious history of the trulli, some dating 1500s. Whimsical round white houses with conical limestone roofs and ancient symbols, it’s like sleeping in an ancient fairytale.

  • Get lost in the maze of winding alleyways and baroque archways in tiny LOCOROTONDO, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. Get lucky at the local casseficio, where cheese makers seduce us with what they do best – fresh mozzarella and sweet buttery buratta.

  • Leave the Adriatic behind and step back 9,000 years in evocative MATERA, 1 of the world’s 3 oldest continually inhabited settlements with homes carved out of rock that have only recently been vacated. Spend your morning studying Bronze Age cave dwellings, spend the evening staring at the moonlight on a white town. Understandably, Matera is Europe’s Capital of Culture 2019.

  • Head east to the Mediterranean for a seafood feast on the Amalfi Coast. Arrive to your palazzo in the heart of NAPLES, Europe’s largest historic center boasting 3 castles, 448 churches and more. Bakery fresh sfogliatelle aromas follow our morning’s first visit, the Veiled Christ, in the company of our expert local guide. And we can’t leave bella Napoli without savoring the city’s best pizza...
